As with so many things in life, we can view the COVID crisis as an additional cross to bare and end our thinking there. Or, we can ask one more important questions, "How can this challenge allow me to build my faith and form a deeper relationship with Christ?"
Our team at DeSales began discussing Christmas in July. There was so much uncertainty around the holiday we found it almost impossible to plan. So many of our "traditions may or may not happen. Would our churches be open? Would we be able to gather to bless the creche? The more we tried to plan and "push" through, the more frustrated and even angry we became about what was being taken away from us. And then, everything changed.
Our focus changed to what remained, the very essence of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ remained, unchanged, steadfast, and clear of holiday distractions leaving us with this simple truth in 2020:
"This Christmas WILL be different. Lavish parties will be canceled and Family gatherings will be smaller; but HE remains."
Wow, more clearly than ever we were able to see a gift in the midst of the COVID crisis; the opportunity to focus this Christmas on our relationship with Jesus, our spouse, our children, and those around us that are in need, because of this crisis.
"He remains" with us in good times and bad, in sickness and heath, for richer and for poorer. He remains with us, as Christ asks us to be there for each other, as ambassadors of his love.
With these things in mind, and a renewed optimism for this Christmas season, we prepared www.redicoverchristmas.org , an Advent journey to prepare us all for the greatest gift God ever gave us, His Son.
